Police launch crackdown on unregistered vehicles, fake number plates in Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Launch Campaign Against Unregistered Vehicles and Fake Number Plates
Bauchi State Police Command has initiated a statewide enforcement campaign targeting unregistered vehicles and the use of concealed or fake number plates. The program, which began Wednesday, includes the deployment of mobile courts to facilitate the prompt prosecution of offenders.
The campaign follows a directive from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and is designed to enhance road safety and bolster security throughout the state.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib, mobile courts have been set up at the headquarters of the state’s five area commands and at select locations within Bauchi metropolis.
The enforcement operation focuses on vehicles that lack proper registration and those with obscured or unauthorized number plates.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu underscored the security risks posed by unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles, noting their potential use in violent crimes, including kidnapping and armed robbery. He emphasized that the goal of the enforcement is not to harass motorists but to protect lives and property.
The police chief warned that vehicles found in violation of the law would be impounded. Offenders will face immediate prosecution in mobile courts, with penalties including fines and other sanctions as outlined in Nigeria’s motor vehicle registration and licensing laws.
The police command encourages vehicle owners to ensure their registration documents are in order, to properly display their number plates, and to avoid covering or altering them.
Authorities urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement during this enforcement exercise and reiterated that the operation will continue without compromise. This initiative is part of broader efforts aimed at reducing the presence of untraceable vehicles used by criminal elements and fostering a safer environment for residents of Bauchi State.
