Bauchi Police Investigate Allegations of Sexual Assault Involving Officer and Civilian
Bauchi State Police Command is conducting an investigation into allegations of sexual assault involving a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a civilian. The incidents reportedly occurred in the Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama initially reported the allegations, which were made by the victim’s father, 42-year-old Mohammed Saleh. Saleh reported to police on July 22 that his 12-year-old daughter was lured by the officer, who is assigned to the Itas Divisional Headquarters, with the sum of N1,000 on July 2, while she was returning from Aisam Academy Secondary School.
According to Makama’s report, after luring the girl, the officer allegedly took her to a drainage dam opposite the Itas/Gadau Local Government Secretariat, where he is accused of raping her.
The report further claims that on July 10, another suspect, Babangida Mai Shayi, a 50-year-old resident of Gambo Quarters in Itas Town, enticed the same girl with N200 to his business premises, where he is also accused of sexually assaulting her.
Following the complaint, police detectives visited the relevant locations and the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Itas for a medical examination. The civilian suspect, Mai Shayi, has been arrested. The police officer has been formally questioned as part of the ongoing disciplinary and criminal investigation.
In a statement, the command confirmed that investigations are continuing to clarify the circumstances surrounding these allegations and to ensure appropriate legal actions are taken based on the findings.
