Akwa Ibom Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Suspected Gang Member
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the recovery of a Toyota Hilux, black bonnet, with the registration number NYA 399 AA. This vehicle was reported stolen on August 6, 2026, from Udo Eduok Street, off Aka Road.
According to police spokesperson DSP Timfon John, suspects fled upon seeing law enforcement officers. They were pursued to a non-motorable area, where they abandoned the vehicle and escaped into nearby woods. The owner, Mr. Reginald, has since been contacted and confirmed the vehicle as his property. Police are working to apprehend the fleeing individuals.
In a separate incident on the same day, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation along Abak Road near the Federal Secretariat in Uyo arrested 21-year-old Emmanuel Emmanson from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. Three live cartridges were recovered from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Emmanson allegedly confessed to being affiliated with the Black Axe Confraternity. He indicated that the cartridges were intended for a cult initiation ceremony in a remote area. He remains in custody as the investigation proceeds, and authorities are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged group.
