Bauchi State Police Recover Stolen Toyota Hilux, Arrest Two Suspects

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the recovery of a stolen 2022 Toyota Hilux, which was reportedly trafficked from Jos, Plateau State. This operation is part of the Command’s ongoing campaign against property-related crimes.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib reported that the vehicle was taken from the premises of Oasis Bakery in Bukuru, Jos, on July 17, 2026. The owner, a 48-year-old resident of Kwata Zawan, had parked the vehicle there.

Authorities indicated that the theft was allegedly facilitated by individuals posing as military personnel.

Following intelligence gathered from Jos, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects at Larema Hotel on GRA Dass Road in Bauchi.

The suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Tijjani, 31, a dismissed lieutenant of the Nigerian Army from the Federal Low Cost area in Jos, and Umar Muhammad, 33, from Unguwar Rogo, Jos. Tijjani, during questioning, confessed to stealing the Hilux and admitted to previously stealing two other vehicles from Bauchi, which he later sold in another state.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the SCID detectives for their effective intervention. He noted that the recovery of this vehicle contributes to over six motor vehicles recovered by the Command in the first two weeks of July 2026 as part of its efforts against property crime.

The commissioner also encouraged community members to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement. “See something, say something, so the Police can take action,” he urged.

Following the recovery, the Toyota Hilux has been returned to its owner, and investigations are ongoing. The suspects are expected to face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
