Edo State Security Corps Arrests Three for Vandalism

Benin City, Edo State — Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested three individuals suspected of vandalizing government properties. The arrests occurred early Monday, June 15, 2026, in a hideout located within the Oluku Primary School in the Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Deputy Commandant Richard Balogun, who oversees operations for the security outfit, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing. He identified the suspects as Daniel Idong, 29, from Cross River State; Destiny Idahosa, 18; and Bright Efosa, 25, both from Edo State.

Balogun stated the suspects were apprehended at approximately 7:06 a.m. and are facing charges related to vandalism and armed robbery. Preliminary investigations indicated their involvement in vandalizing government property and unlawfully occupying the primary school’s premises.

“The use of a public school as a criminal hideout is concerning and poses a threat to public safety,” Balogun remarked. He emphasized the commitment of security agencies to address criminal activity in the state.

Balogun noted that he had recently visited local schools to raise awareness among residents and students about the importance of protecting public property. Additionally, the suspects are under investigation for criminal trespass and other actions that may disrupt community peace.

Following their arrest, the suspects were transferred to the Divisional Police Officer of the Ekiadolor Police Division for further investigation and potential prosecution. One suspect, Destiny Idahosa, reportedly admitted to stealing a mobile phone from a commercial bus driver.
