Sokoto: Bandits in military uniform gun down four in fresh attack

Attack in Sokoto State Leaves Four Dead, Several Injured

Bandits dressed in military uniforms attacked the Unguwan Lalle community in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and injuries to several others. The assault began around 8 p.m. on Sunday and continued until about 2 a.m. on Monday.

During the raid, the assailants reportedly looted homes and businesses and rustled an undisclosed number of livestock. Local residents described a chaotic scene as the attackers, estimated to number around 200, approached the community, initially misleading residents into believing they were security forces.

“We thought they were soldiers because of their uniforms,” one resident recounted. “They surrounded the village, opened fire on anyone trying to escape, broke into our homes, stole our livestock, and looted our shops.”

Earlier that day, security personnel had responded to a separate incident in which a farmer was killed in the area. A resident noted that military forces had arrived in two armored vehicles and remained in the village until around 8 p.m. After their departure, the bandits struck.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the earlier killing of one farmer in the vicinity. However, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahmad Rufa’i stated that he had not yet received information about the attack on the community.

“I have received a report confirming the killing of one person on Sunday. However, I have not yet been briefed on the other reported attack,” Rufa’i said.

The ongoing security challenges in the region highlight the need for increased vigilance and response efforts.
