Former APC Official Challenges Authenticity of Trump’s Alleged Endorsement Letter
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to clarify the alleged endorsement letter from former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement issued Thursday, Frank called for the full disclosure of Trump’s letter, suggesting the content is merely routine diplomatic correspondence related to security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
Frank questioned the document’s authenticity, stating that any legitimate communication from the American president should feature the official White House seal and President Trump’s signature. “The letter is not from the White House. If it doesn’t have the White House seal and the signature of the President of the United States, it appears dubious at best,” Frank asserted, raising concerns about the government’s portrayal of the letter.
He further clarified that, regardless of the letter’s existence, it should not be interpreted as a political endorsement of Tinubu or his administration. “The letter only commended Nigeria for partnering with the United States in addressing insecurity. It did not imply any support for President Tinubu or his economic policies,” he added, suggesting that the Presidency was attempting to reframe the communication as more significant than it is.
Frank noted the letter was dated July 6 but became public only later, arguing that a substantial political endorsement would have been announced immediately. “By celebrating this ‘letter,’ the government is showing that it is looking for legitimacy and credibility before the international community,” he said.
The controversy follows a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, which indicated that President Trump had written to Tinubu, commending the Nigerian government for its efforts against terrorism and the persecution of Christians in the country.
