Suspected thugs attack journalists at APC rally in Kano
KANO, Nigeria — Several journalists and other individuals were attacked by a group of assailants at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kano State on Saturday, resulting in significant damage to a Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM vehicle.
The incident took place shortly after a political gathering at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers specifically targeted journalists exiting the venue after covering the event. They reportedly wielded machetes and knives, smashing the windows and damaging various parts of the bus.
Five journalists were among those affected during the incident. They included Shafiu Abdullahi Panshekara, Abdulmajid Habib Isa Tukuntawa, Yakubu Abubakar Gwagwarwa, and Ibrahim Hussaini from Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM Kano, as well as Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai from Guarantee Radio.
The Radio Nigeria vehicle also contained several other occupants, including the orderly to Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, personnel from the Department of State Services, and the political adviser to former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Reports indicate that the attackers persisted in their assault on the vehicle despite the presence of journalists and security personnel inside. The attack caused widespread fear and confusion among those returning from the political event.
