Three Arrested in Connection with Fatal Beating in Kano; Woman Held for Stabbing Boyfriend
KANO, Nigeria — Three individuals have been arrested following the alleged beating death of a man in Kano, while a woman is in police custody for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in a separate incident.
The Kano State Police Command reported that the first incident occurred on July 24 in the Sheka area. Authorities allege that 30-year-old Abubakar Auwal was lured by Abubakar Ali and Sulaiman Lawan under the pretense that he was involved with a married woman.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, a police spokesperson, stated, “Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Sheka Police Division were immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the victim was found to have been brutally assaulted and beaten into a comatose state.”
The police detained three suspects at the scene, which included the two men and a married woman, Hafsat Umar. Auwal was transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Authorities have taken the victim’s body to a mortuary for an autopsy, and investigations are ongoing. The suspects are expected to face charges in court following the completion of the inquiry.
In a separate incident on July 27 at the Durbar Hotel in Badawa, police reported that 25-year-old Maimunatu Idris allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a knife after discovering he intended to marry another woman. It is claimed that during the assault, she severed the man’s genitals.
Officers apprehended Idris at the scene and recovered the knife used in the attack. The victim was subsequently taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital for medical treatment.
Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori condemned both incidents, cautioning residents against taking the law into their own hands. He assured the public that the police command would conduct “diligent, transparent, and thorough investigations into both cases” and that all suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
