2027: Tinubu will defeat Kwankwaso in Kano — Abdulmumin Jibrin

Kano Lawmaker Predicts Presidential Victory for Tinubu over Kwankwaso in 2027 Election

Abdulmumin Jibrin, the representative for the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will triumph over former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

Jibrin made his predictions during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday. He discussed the political landscape in Kano as the election approaches.

Kwankwaso, a two-term governor of Kano, is currently the running mate for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on the ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Jibrin, who has shifted his allegiance to Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) after previously collaborating with Kwankwaso, believes his familiarity with Kwankwaso’s political tactics will aid the APC’s efforts in the election.

When asked whether Tinubu could defeat Kwankwaso in Kano, Jibrin stated, “He will because many of us know the dynamics, his strategies, how he operates, the Kwankwasiyya movement, their strengths, their weaknesses. We are all here and we know how we will be able to deal with that situation.”

Despite his optimism, Jibrin acknowledged Kwankwaso’s significant influence, describing the competition as challenging for the APC. “We know him very, very well. He is still influential and has a supporter base in Kano. Whoever tells you he doesn’t have a supporter base is not telling you the truth. So, it’s going to be a tough battle,” he remarked.

Jibrin argued that the dynamics of the 2027 presidential race would favor Tinubu because Kwankwaso will compete as a vice-presidential candidate rather than running for the presidency. “There is a difference between Kwankwaso being on the ballot as a presidential candidate and being on the ballot as a running mate. There is a sharp difference; they are completely two different things,” he explained.

He noted that Kwankwaso’s position as a presidential candidate could have significantly changed the political climate in Kano. “If Kwankwaso were on the ballot as a presidential candidate, the dynamics in Kano might be different, but he is not the presidential candidate,” Jibrin added.

Jibrin also addressed his current political relationship with Kwankwaso, clarifying that his decision to oppose his former ally is not driven by personal animosity. He expressed gratitude for the support he received from Kwankwaso during the early stages of his political career. “Of course, he gave me a push in politics, and I appreciate everything. I will continue to respect him and will never join issues with him,” he stated.

Both politicians have had shifting political allegiances over time. “We all changed parties and loyalties; he himself has changed party,” Jibrin concluded.
