Transfer: Atletico Madrid board members release statement on selling Alvarez to Barcelona
Atletico Madrid’s board of directors has reaffirmed the club’s position regarding the future of forward Julian Alvarez, firmly stating they will not engage in transfer negotiations with Barcelona.
In a statement issued Thursday morning, the board addressed comments made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who suggested Atletico was attempting to sell Alvarez to other clubs while maintaining that their offer remains in play.
Atletico Madrid’s statement clarified, “Atletico de Madrid is open to standard transfer market negotiations when conducted in a professional, ethical, and respectful manner.” The club emphasized that FC Barcelona had not met these criteria, leading to their decision to reject any discussions about Alvarez’s transfer.
The statement continued, “We fully stand behind the club’s previously communicated position that there will not be any negotiation, and there is zero consideration of an Alvarez transfer to Barcelona.”
Atletico Madrid expressed confidence that Alvarez would understand the situation and remain committed to the club’s objectives, noting his contributions over the past two seasons.
