Transfer: Fans will be disappointed – Smith sends message to Arsenal over two decisions
Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has expressed concern that a segment of the club’s supporters may feel let down if Gabriel Martinelli departs alongside Leandro Trossard this summer.
Arsenal recently sold Trossard to Turkish club Besiktas and are reportedly nearing a transfer agreement for Martinelli with Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian team.
“For Al-Hilal, he will be a good signing. Martinelli isn’t an average player,” Smith told Sky Sports. He further noted that Martinelli has been a valuable asset for Arsenal over the years but suggested the player may be experiencing a dip in form.
“Arsenal fans are disappointed to see Trossard go, and in a way, I think Martinelli would evoke the same sentiment because he’s contributed significantly over the years,” Smith added.
Since joining Arsenal in 2019, Martinelli has made 278 appearances, scoring 62 goals and providing 36 assists. His current contract with the club extends until June 2027.
