Ferdinand Urges Welbeck to Consider Manchester United Return
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has advised his ex-teammate Danny Welbeck to avoid a potential move to Chelsea during the ongoing summer transfer window. Instead, Ferdinand recommended that Welbeck return to Manchester United, emphasizing the opportunity to participate in Champions League football this season.
Welbeck, currently a striker for Brighton, has reportedly engaged in advanced discussions regarding a transfer to Chelsea, as the club seeks to enhance its attacking options under manager Xabi Alonso. The 35-year-old forward, who netted 13 goals in the Premier League last season, is nearing the end of his contract, with just one year remaining.
In response to rumors of Chelsea’s interest, Ferdinand took to social media platform X on Monday, urging Welbeck to “ignore” the advances and “come back home” to Manchester, where he would have the chance to play in the prestigious tournament.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, Welbeck scored 29 goals in 142 appearances for Manchester United.
