Transfer: Why I didn’t join Liverpool – Moses Simon

Moses Simon Reflects on Regrets Over Unfulfilled Premier League Transfers

Moses Simon, a forward for both the Super Eagles and Paris FC, has shared insights on his missed opportunities to join several clubs in the English Premier League, including Liverpool, Hull City, Fulham, Brighton, and Tottenham Hotspur.

In a recent interview with Urban Dwell Sport, Simon identified his pursuit of a transfer between 2016 and 2018 as the most significant regret of his professional career. He believes this ambition negatively affected his performance during that period.

Despite his considerable achievements and lengthy tenure with the Super Eagles, Simon expressed a desire to share his experience as cautionary advice for younger players. “Yes, I have regrets, and I want to share this with the younger generation,” he said.

Simon recounted his efforts to secure a transfer, highlighting that Liverpool had shown interest, along with several other clubs. He noted that while rumors circulated in the media, the accuracy of those reports varied.

“In the first year, I couldn’t secure a transfer. The following year, I was on the verge of joining Liverpool, but that deal fell through,” he stated. “Brighton also didn’t work out, which left me questioning if it was my agent or the clubs involved. I started thinking, ‘Whether I play or don’t play, it doesn’t matter.'”

He explained that he believed in the notion that if he did not play, the club would be motivated to find a way to sell him. “The club purchased me for 1 million euros, but after just one year, they wanted 25 million euros,” Simon elaborated.

This reflection serves as a reminder of the complexities athletes face in managing their careers and the impact of ambition on performance.
