Nigerian Army and DSS Arrest Suspected Explosives Expert in Abia State

Troops from the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected explosives expert linked to the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Abia State.

The arrest took place at approximately 3:50 a.m. on July 12 in the Ummuene community of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the information on his official X account, citing security sources.

The operation was executed by troops from the Headquarters, 14 Brigade, along with DSS personnel from the Abia and Enugu State Commands. They were acting on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s location.

Sources indicated that the operation resulted in the apprehension of an individual identified as an alleged specialist in explosives for the IPOB and ESN. Two mobile phones were also seized during the process.

The suspect and the recovered items have been transferred to the DSS Abia State Command for further investigation.

Authorities noted that this arrest is part of ongoing security measures aimed at dismantling criminal and extremist networks in the South-East region.
