Nigerian Army Foils Kidnapping Attempt in Niger State

The Nigerian Army has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by armed bandits targeting farmers in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident occurred on June 22 at approximately 12:35 p.m., along the Kukata-Kotonkoro road, as soldiers on patrol encountered suspected terrorists. This information was shared on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who closely monitors security developments in the region.

According to security sources, the attackers had approached the area with the intention of abducting farmers working in the fields but quickly retreated upon sighting the approaching troops. “The terrorists ran away immediately they sighted the troops, abandoning their plan,” a source reported.

The soldiers involved in the encounter were from the Nigerian Army Training Centre’s Administration Battalion and were conducting routine fighting patrols at the time. In response to the situation, the troops have maintained their presence in the area and have continued patrols to deter any further threats.

This latest development highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army to enhance security in regions vulnerable to banditry and kidnapping.
