Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Recover Livestock in Katsina
KATSINA, Nigeria (AP) — Troops from the Sector 2 Joint Task Force, involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reported the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of 175 rustled livestock during operations in multiple local government areas on May 9.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), soldiers from the 171 Battalion, stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA, executed a successful ambush along the Matazu–Dutsin-Ma route based on credible intelligence. The operation resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists.
The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, and assorted charms from the suspects.
In a separate development, troops collaborating with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps cleared terrorist enclaves within the Matazu, Musawa, and Kankia local government areas. During these operations in the villages of Torcachi, Giginya, and Tashar Ganji, military personnel reported that terrorists abandoned their camps and fled.
The recovered livestock, now secured in military custody, will be handed over to the appropriate local authorities in Matazu LGA.
Additionally, troops at FOB Malumfashi, alongside agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), conducted a raid in Kauyan Dawo, leading to the arrest of six alleged drug peddlers. The suspects, aged between 22 and 35, include Sani Rabiu, Umar Nasiru, Abulkubus Aminu, Abdullahi Halilu, Abubakar Rabiu, and Abubakar Dahiru.
Authorities seized approximately 82.5 grams of suspected Cannabis Sativa, 15.7 grams of Exol-5, and 1.8 grams of D5 during the operation. The suspects and the confiscated substances have been transferred to the NDLEA Malumfashi Area Command for further investigation and prosecution.
