Troops Recover Stolen Cows and Cash in Sokoto Operation
GUDU, Sokoto State — Troops involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA recovered six rustled cows and ₦165,000 during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Gudu Local Government Area on Thursday.
According to a report shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation took place at Darusa Village Market. Military sources indicated that the troops acted on intelligence suggesting that suspected terrorists had entered the market to sell stolen livestock.
The troops identified the suspects and apprehended them before any transaction was completed. Along with the livestock and cash, authorities recovered two mobile phones believed to be connected to the illegal cattle trade.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Usman Bammo, 45, from Huss Village; Muhammadu Dage, 25, from Birnin Kebbi; Ali Usman, 23, from Binji LGA; and Abubakar Garba, 30, from Silame LGA, all of whom are residents of North-West Nigeria.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may be members or collaborators of the Lakurawa terrorist network, which has been implicated in cattle rustling and other criminal activities in Sokoto and the surrounding areas.
The suspects remain in military custody for questioning and are expected to be transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and potential prosecution.
