Military Repels Attack in Borno, Conducts Rescue Operations

NGAWA, Borno State — Troops from Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully repelled an attempted incursion by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) at a military base in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of several insurgents. One soldier was killed during the encounter.

The attack occurred at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani, located in the Ngala Local Government Area, where ISWAP militants attempted to overrun the military installation.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the Media Information Officer for OPHK, reported that the attackers managed to breach a portion of the base’s defensive perimeter but were met with a rapid counter-offensive from the troops.

“Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” Goni stated. Additional troops have since been deployed to reinforce the area, and he affirmed that the situation remains under control.

In a separate operation, troops from the 115 Task Force Battalion successfully rescued two individuals kidnapped earlier in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area. Goni indicated that the victims were provided with medical attention and psychosocial support. In the operation, troops also recovered N1.2 million believed to be linked to criminal activities, as well as various food items and logistics materials associated with terrorist operations.

Additionally, six suspected ISWAP fighters and their families surrendered to troops from the 192 Battalion in Sector 1 of OPHK. This group had fled from terrorist enclaves in the Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide areas of the Mandara mountains, located in Gwoza Local Government Area. Troops recovered N1.54 million in cash and two mobile phones from the individuals.

Furthermore, security forces arrested suspected criminals and logistics suppliers in parts of Adamawa and Borno states, seizing weapons, ammunition, vehicles, cash, and materials linked to terrorist activities.

In a related operation in Zamfara State, security forces rescued an abducted staff member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and recovered hundreds of stolen cattle in Gummi, Talata Mafara, and Gusau Local Government Areas.

Zamfara State Commissioner of Police A.M. Bello emphasized the command’s commitment to continuous operations against criminal elements and encouraged residents to provide credible intelligence.

Military officials affirm that these ongoing operations aim to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistical channels, and restore security across the North-East and other impacted regions.
