Joint Task Force Repels Terrorist Attacks in Katsina and Zamfara States
KATSINA, Nigeria—Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully fended off multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head, and seized several weapons during coordinated operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.
The details of these operations were disclosed on Friday by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst specializing in counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, through his social media account.
According to military sources referenced by Makama, these operations took place on July 2 and are part of ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorist groups in the North-West region of Nigeria.
In Katsina State, troops engaged in a fighting patrol encountered terrorists who opened fire near Amara and Chakau Junction in the Danmusa Local Government Area. The troops successfully overpowered the assailants, who fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two motorcycles.
Another operation occurred in the vicinity of Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages within the Dutsinma Local Government Area. Here, military personnel, along with local vigilantes and other security agencies, repelled a separate attack, resulting in the death of one assailant, while others sustained gunshot wounds.
Additionally, security forces rescued Mubarak Sharin, the District Head of Farin Hawa Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area, who had been abducted by terrorists. The suspects were intercepted during a pursuit that led to a gun battle, resulting in the rescue of Sharin without injury.
In Zamfara State, troops successfully repelled an attack on their position at Dauran in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area. A follow-up operation yielded an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a bandolier, and a hydration pack left behind by the fleeing attackers.
The military praised the courageous efforts of the troops, local vigilantes, and other security agencies involved in these operations, reaffirming their commitment to continue offensive actions against terrorist groups across the North-West.
