Troops Conduct Operations Against Terrorism in North-East Nigeria
Borno State, Nigeria — Troops from the Joint Task Force North-East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have taken significant action against terrorism in recent operations, rescuing two abductees and repelling an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants.
According to a statement from Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Joint Task Force Headquarters, the 115 Task Force Battalion successfully rescued two individuals during a search-and-rescue operation in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area on July 7. The military reported recovery of N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities, along with food items and other logistics linked to terrorist operations. The rescued individuals have been transported to a secure location for medical care and psychosocial support.
In a separate engagement, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Logomani managed to defend their position against a coordinated assault by suspected ISWAP militants. Following a brief breach of the defensive perimeter, soldiers regrouped, driving the attackers back. However, the military confirmed that one soldier was killed during the encounter. Two gun trucks and additional combat equipment were also reported damaged.
In another coordinated effort, troops from the 232 Battalion arrested a suspect in Gombi Local Government Area, recovering an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, units of the 149 Battalion apprehended two individuals identified as logistical suppliers for terrorism in Mobbar Local Government Area, seizing cash, a Volkswagen Golf, construction materials, household items, and other supplies intended for terrorist operations.
Continuing their operations, the 24 Task Force Brigade, with support from the Civilian Joint Task Force, recovered a sack of assorted illicit drugs during a clearance operation in the Wulgo region, following the withdrawal of suspected terrorists.
The military also reported that six suspected ISWAP members, along with their families, surrendered to troops in the Gwoza Local Government Area. Recovered items included N1.541 million, two mobile phones, and additional materials.
Further operations at the Molai checkpoint in Borno State and in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State resulted in the interception of suspected logistical suppliers, alongside the recovery of medical supplies and five motorcycle tires reportedly intended for terrorist groups.
Operation HADIN KAI officials stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist logistics networks, facilitate the recovery of abductees, and maintain pressure on insurgent groups across the North-East.
