Two Police Officers Killed in Kaduna During Rescue Operation

Two police officers were killed during a security operation that successfully rescued nine individuals kidnapped by armed bandits in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Police Command reported that the rescue occurred following intelligence information indicating that armed bandits had abducted several farmers in Unguwan Sa’idu village on June 24.

According to police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan, law enforcement personnel, including members of the Police Mobile Force and the Kaduna Vigilance Service, were deployed to the area. They confronted the bandits in a gun battle, which led to the bandits retreating into nearby bushes and abandoning their captives.

The security team subsequently rescued nine victims who were found tied up and left behind by the attackers.

However, tragedy ensued as the officers were returning from the operation. They were ambushed by suspected bandits who had positioned themselves along the route. Two policemen sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died while performing their duties.

Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the slain officers, honoring them as heroes for their ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

The police announced that investigations and tactical operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend those responsible for the ambush.
