Two Suspected Cultists Wounded in Gunfire Exchange with Delta State Police

AGBOR, Delta State – Two suspected cultists were injured during an exchange of gunfire with officers from the Delta State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) early on June 16.

The police operation led to the arrest of 25 additional suspects at a known initiation ground. Several individuals fled the scene during the engagement.

According to Delta State Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, the operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the Eiye Confraternity, which has been linked to recent violent incidents in the Agbor community.

“Acting on this intelligence, the VCRU stormed the suspected initiation site after learning that the group was planning further violence and initiating new members,” Edafe stated.

Upon arrival, the police team came under fire from some suspects, prompting a response that resulted in two individuals sustaining gunshot wounds.

Edafe confirmed that officers recovered a pump-action shotgun and a cut-to-size firearm during the operation. The injured suspects are currently receiving medical treatment, and investigations are ongoing.
