BUDAPEST—Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, has recommended that manager Mikel Arteta deploy Martin Ødegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Declan Rice in the midfield for the upcoming Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The final is set to take place on Saturday evening in Budapest. In a column for Sportskeeda, Merson emphasized that Ødegaard and Eze are among Arsenal’s top creative midfielders.
“The whole midfield battle is crucial,” Merson stated. “I think Arsenal should feature both Ødegaard and Eze alongside Rice.”
Merson acknowledged that while PSG boasts three skilled midfielders, they are not known for aggressive play. “This will be a pure football contest in midfield, and Arsenal must field their best creative players,” he noted.
He added that the midfielders do not require extra protection but should focus on ball retention. “If they start giving it away too easily, it’s game over,” he warned.
