University of Ibadan Appoints New Vice Chancellor
The University of Ibadan has appointed Professor Peter Olapegba as its new Vice Chancellor, announced on Wednesday afternoon. He becomes the 14th individual to hold the position.
The Pro Chancellor of the university, Chief Bisi Akande, revealed that five shortlisted candidates were interviewed on the same day after a rigorous selection process. Akande, a former governor of Osun State, noted that during the process, an additional three applications were submitted, bringing the total number of candidates to eight.
“The Joint Council-Senate Selection Board interviewed the five shortlisted candidates,” Akande said. “At the end of a very thorough, transparent, and highly competitive exercise, Professor Peter Olapegba emerged as the best candidate for the position of Vice Chancellor.”
Professor Olapegba has previously served as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and currently lectures in the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Social Sciences. He is scheduled to assume office on December 1 of this year.
In the selection process, Olapegba competed against several other candidates, including Professor Adeyinka Aderinto from the Department of Sociology and Professor Adebola Ekanola, who previously served as Acting Vice Chancellor.
