Five Suspects Arrested in Benin City Kidnapping Case

The Edo State Police Command announced that five individuals suspected of involvement in a recent kidnapping incident at a vegetable market in Benin City have been apprehended.

According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, one suspect, known only as Precious, was killed during a gun battle with police on June 14, 2026, while officers were conducting a rescue operation.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Marvelous Isaac, who was taken into custody by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) during a coordinated effort.

Items recovered from Isaac included a red Lexus RX 350 SUV with the registration number EKP 848 AE, which he allegedly used in the kidnapping, a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, N2.05 million in cash, and a motorcycle.

In a separate operation on June 20, three additional suspects were arrested in Benin City and parts of Delta State. Among those taken into custody was 27-year-old Gift Raphael, who led police to the subsequent apprehension of Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael.

Ikoedem reported that all suspects have provided confessional statements linking them to the kidnapping incident and other criminal activities in the area.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika praised the officers for their professionalism and determination in dismantling the criminal network. He assured residents that the police would continue their efforts until all criminal elements are brought to justice. Agbonika urged the public to provide timely and credible information while remaining vigilant and security conscious.
