WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons ready to defend crown – Nnadozie
Super Falcons Set Sights on 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Title
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie expressed the team’s commitment to retaining their title at the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as reported by DAILY POST.
Under the direction of coach Justine Madugu, the squad aims for an unprecedented 11th title when the tournament commences in Morocco next week.
The defending champions will compete in a group that includes Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt—teams perceived as less challenging.
In addition to the title, the WAFCON finals will determine qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nnadozie emphasized the importance of securing a spot in the global competition.
“We will take it one match at a time because we cannot afford to stumble at any stage due to overconfidence. Our focus is firmly on achieving both the FIFA World Cup ticket and retaining the trophy,” she stated in an interview with thenff.com.
The tournament has expanded from 12 to 16 teams, a change Nnadozie believes will enhance competition.
“It is interesting to have more teams in the finals. This expansion will make the tournament more competitive, but we will remain calm and focused, regardless of the number of teams involved,” added the Brighton goalkeeper.
