WAFCON: Super Falcons’ Christy Ucheibe makes promise ahead Zambia clash

Super Falcons’ Ucheibe Vows to Bounce Back Against Zambia

Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has expressed confidence that the team will perform at its best in their upcoming match against Zambia, aiming to advance beyond the group stage of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ucheibe’s comments came after Nigeria’s unexpected 3-2 loss to Malawi in their Group C opener on Tuesday night at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

“It’s football; nothing went wrong,” Ucheibe said in an interview with Victor Ademola. “Both teams played very well. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you draw. But you have to bounce back.”

Looking ahead, Ucheibe stated, “In the next game against Zambia, we will try our best to get through this phase so we can qualify for the World Cup and defend our title.”

Malawi’s victory marked a significant upset in WAFCON history, as the team shocked the 10-time champions with three second-half goals from Temwa Chawinga and her sister, Tabita Chawinga.

Nigeria managed to respond with a penalty from Rasheedat Ajibade and a late goal by Uchenna Kanu, but could not turn the game around.

Following this result, Nigeria currently sits in third place in Group C, with zero points and a goal difference of minus one.

The Super Falcons will face Zambia on Saturday.
