Why Peter Obi got it wrong by picking Datti Baba-Ahmed in 2023 – Isaac Fayose

Prince Isaac Fayose, a notable social commentator, criticized Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), for selecting Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate during the 2023 general elections.

Fayose asserted that Baba-Ahmed’s candidacy was unsuccessful, noting that he failed to secure victory for the Labour Party in his home state. In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, Fayose suggested that Obi could have chosen a more politically relevant figure as his running mate.

“Datti Ahmed is a failure. Nobody knew this man before Peter Obi picked him in 2022 as his running mate,” Fayose stated. He emphasized that Baba-Ahmed’s inability to win even in his own state during the 2023 elections raised questions about Obi’s decision.

“The choice was controversial; many were left wondering why Obi selected him. Considering the current situation, it seems Obi got it wrong,” he added.

Fayose also claimed that Baba-Ahmed’s recent criticisms of Obi stemmed from jealousy related to Obi’s decision to choose Rabiu Kwankwaso for the upcoming 2027 elections.

“He is a jealous man upset that Obi did not select him again this time. Datti Ahmed wasted our time four years ago,” Fayose remarked.

He concluded by asserting that Obi’s new vice-presidential candidate possesses greater capability, popularity, and wisdom in the Northern region than Baba-Ahmed.
