APC Chieftain Urges FCT Minister to Consult Governors on Rainbow Coalition
Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to engage with the party’s governors regarding his proposed Rainbow Coalition. The initiative is aimed at garnering support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
Igbokwe’s remarks come amid tensions between Wike and the APC governors following the latter’s rejection of the coalition proposal. Wike criticized the governors, labeling them as “politically lazy” after they dismissed his plans for a cross-party alliance. In response, Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum and serves as the Governor of Imo State, stated that the governors would not endorse any political arrangement that jeopardizes the APC or Tinubu’s candidacy.
Igbokwe emphasized Wike’s importance as a political player whose clout should not be overlooked. He remarked, “Wike is a critical stakeholder. You can ignore him to your own peril. He has a command. He has the followers.”
Despite acknowledging Wike’s influence, Igbokwe questioned the timing and strategy of the Rainbow Coalition. He stressed the necessity for Wike to consult with the APC governors and clarify his objectives. “Coming at this time to put this (Rainbow Coalition) on the table, it’s not… he has to listen to the majority; sit down with the governors and explain,” Igbokwe said.
He further advocated for the resolution of their disagreements through dialogue rather than public confrontations, stating, “No man is an island. Explain to your colleagues what you are trying to do.”
