Without peace, security, economic growth slows – Gov Oborevwori

Delta State Stakeholders Unite Against Criminality at Security Summit

ASABA, Delta State — In a bid to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, various stakeholders convened at a summit on Wednesday, organized by the Delta State government. The event gathered heads of security agencies, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups, women and youth organizations, and members of the business community.

The summit focused on strategies to strengthen peace and security across the state. Participants expressed their condemnation of terrorism and other acts of violence occurring throughout Nigeria.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the theme “Security: A Collective Responsibility.” He highlighted that security is a fundamental aspect of sustainable development, asserting that no community can thrive amid fear and instability.

“Security remains the foundation of every prosperous society. Without peace and stability, economic growth slows, investments decline, and communities struggle to thrive,” Oborevwori stated. He noted that while the government and security forces have constitutional duties to maintain order, achieving lasting peace requires collaboration among all sectors of society.

The governor urged the public to cooperate with security agencies, underscoring the importance of intelligence sharing and timely reporting of suspicious activities. “Security agencies are not magicians; they rely on credible information,” he said, warning that criminal activities proliferate when communities remain silent.

Oborevwori reiterated Delta State’s condemnation of terrorism nationwide and called for a collective effort to enhance security, urging residents to remain vigilant. “I call on every resident of Delta State to be security conscious and report any suspicious activities,” he added.

Earlier in the summit, Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the State Government, explained that the gathering was a response to increasing security challenges across the nation. He stated the forum aimed not only to identify these challenges but also to forge actionable solutions that would promote peace and stability in Delta State.
