Afenifere Criticizes Tinubu Administration on Third Anniversary
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organization Afenifere has voiced strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming that the administration has left Nigeria in a worse state than when he assumed office three years ago.
In a statement titled “Tinubu’s Third Year Report: Summum Malum or Summum Bonum,” the group outlined its concerns over increasing poverty, unemployment, and insecurity in the country. The statement was signed by Afenifere leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan and National Publicity Secretary Prince Justice Faloye.
“Afenifere is fearful of the current course of our democracy,” the organization said, expressing solidarity with Nigerian citizens who have faced rising instances of poverty, mass killings, and kidnappings during what it characterized as a maladministration. The group referenced Chapter Two, Section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution, which states that the primary purpose of governance is the welfare and security of citizens.
The organization lamented the deterioration of security and economic conditions, arguing that the administration has reversed progress made in previous years. “The nightmare of ultimate evil has become a reality under the APC administration, with teachers being beheaded, children being kidnapped, and villages ransacked and displaced,” the statement noted, emphasizing the urgency for reform in Nigeria’s security architecture.
Afenifere called attention to recent incidents of violence in states such as Kwara and Oyo, attributing these issues to the administration’s failure to establish state and community police forces. The group questioned whether there is an agreement between the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and terrorist groups, referring to past admissions by APC officials regarding the importation of militants in previous elections.
“Previously, we heard of politicians sleeping in coffins for political pacts with their godfathers; now our whole democracy is wearing coffin shoes under APC governance,” the statement concluded.
Afenifere urged improvements in the electoral system as the nation approaches the next election, hoping for a return to stability and prosperity for Nigerian citizens.
