ADC, Atiku Abubakar’s Camp Deny Defection Talks with NDC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have refuted claims of ongoing discussions regarding a potential alliance with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). These denials come amid speculation of impending announcements as reports suggest high-level contacts between the two political entities.
Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, dismissed the rumors, stating, “If that is the case, I will be the first to know. I don’t think that there’s anything like that,” when reached for comment.
In a similar vein, officials within the ADC have rejected the assertions, emphasizing that no conversations are taking place between their key leaders and the NDC. “100% rubbish,” said Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, when addressing the allegations.
The speculated talks stem from reports indicating that influential political figures within the ADC are engaging with NDC members, potentially paving the way for an official announcement as early as Wednesday. The NDC has gained attention in political circles following the recent defection of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, sparking rumors of it becoming a central figure for those seeking new political alignment.
Sources familiar with the situation suggest that any interactions between the ADC and NDC are not necessarily about an outright party switch, but rather involve broader coalition discussions as opposition figures strategize in preparation for the 2027 elections.
