Premier League releases statement on why Haaland’s goal against Man Utd was given
The Premier League has provided clarification regarding Erling Haaland’s goal for Manchester City during their match against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Haaland scored the goal in the second half by converting a cross from teammate Antoine Semenyo. Initially, the assistant referee raised the flag for offside, prompting a review of the play.
After a thorough check by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), referee Michael Oliver received confirmation that Haaland was in an onside position, leading him to award the goal.
According to a statement on the Premier League Match Centre’s X account, VAR reviewed the referee’s initial decision of no goal due to offside. The review concluded that Haaland was indeed onside when the ball was played. The VAR also determined that United’s player, Fernandez, did not play the ball while in an offside position.
