2027: ‘If I’ve erred in any way, I’m sorry’, Elliot begs Gbajabiamila

Desmond Elliot Seeks Re-Election in Lagos Assembly

LAGOS — Desmond Olusola Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, formally submitted his nomination form for re-election ahead of the 2027 polls. At a press conference following the submission, Elliot appealed for forgiveness from Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, if he had ever offended him during his tenure.
“Our leader is a compassionate leader and a leader of thought,” Elliot said. “We are like children who sometimes err. If I have made mistakes, I apologize and ask for another chance to bring more dividends of democracy to the people.”
Elliot’s remarks came in response to reports from the Surulere Accountability Forum, which suggested he would not receive their support. He dismissed these claims as “political propaganda,” stating, “I don’t know them. You can see for yourself; I only came to declare to the Community Development Association.”
In defending his bid for a fourth term, he emphasized the advantages of experience in the legislature. “Three terms are significant, but another term could be even more beneficial,” he said. “As a ranking member, I can secure better opportunities and resources for my constituents, particularly in areas like infrastructure and job creation.”
Elliot outlined plans for his next term, including advocating for the establishment of an Institute of Legislative Studies and the Lagos State Orientation Agency. He expressed a desire to introduce legislative education in primary and secondary schools and emphasized the importance of instilling morals and values in society.
He described government as a continuum, stressing the advantages of legislative experience. “If you stop, someone else starts from the beginning. A newcomer does not receive the same benefits as established members,” he noted. “My leader, for example, became Speaker in his fifth term, which would not have been possible in his early years.”
Elliot’s campaign for re-election highlights his commitment to continued legislative service and development in Surulere.
