2027: ‘Join NDC now, or face blame for opposition failure,’ Galadima warns Atiku

NDC Leader Appeals to Atiku Abubakar to Join Opposition Coalition
By Ayobami Okerinde
A prominent member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to officially join the party. Galadima issued the warning that Abubakar could be held accountable if opposition factions fail to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Monday, Galadima noted that several key opposition figures are aligning under the NDC to create a robust coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The truth of the matter is that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have transitioned into the ADC, aiming for an opposition unity to unseat President Tinubu. Unfortunately, there are concerns that the APC has manipulated the judicial system to undermine the opposition,” Galadima stated.
He urged Abubakar to join the NDC, paralleling the moves made by other political leaders. “If he refuses, then Atiku will be held responsible,” he added.
Galadima emphasized that failing to join the NDC could fracture efforts to consolidate opposition. He insisted that Abubakar’s presence is crucial for the coalition’s success.
“All the political players are now in the NDC. Those who remain outside, like Kwankwaso did before joining the ADC, need to reconsider their positions. We are asking Atiku to come into the NDC to strengthen our effort to remove the incumbent government.”
Galadima went on to assert that Abubakar cannot remain in the ADC while pursuing his political ambitions for the 2027 elections.
This appeal follows the recent announcement that Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Kwankwaso have joined the NDC. They made the decision during a visit to Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, where discussions with party leaders took place.
In response to Galadima’s remarks, the ADC and Atiku’s associates have denied any discussions regarding Abubakar’s potential defection to the NDC. Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media advisor, stated, “If that were the case, I would be the first to know. I don’t think there’s anything like that.”
The political landscape continues to evolve as parties strategize for the upcoming elections, with opposition unity remaining a critical focus.
