2027: ‘You can’t condemn rigging and write results’, Amaechi tells ADC

Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results, Raises Concerns Over Process
By Luminous Jannamike, Abuja
Former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, a declared presidential aspirant for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has formally rejected the results of the party’s recent presidential primary. In a statement released on X, he accused party leadership of disenfranchising members and manipulating the electoral process.
Amaechi’s rejection poses a new challenge for the ADC as it seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in anticipation of the 2027 presidential election.
He described the primary’s outcomes as “concocted results” and expressed concerns regarding widespread voter disenfranchisement, alleging that nearly 80 percent of members were barred from voting.
“I had initially stated that I would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” Amaechi said. He emphasized that he could not accept results that failed to reflect the values the ADC promised to uphold.
“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission for vote-buying, rigging, and result-manipulation cannot engage in these same practices. This is unacceptable,” he stated.
Amaechi’s criticisms are likely to escalate tensions within the ADC and draw increased scrutiny of the party’s electoral process as opposition parties prepare for the crucial 2027 general election.
