345 in police net as Kano cracks down on crime

Kano State Police Arrest 345 Suspects in Crime Crackdown

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 345 individuals in a significant operation aimed at reducing criminal activity throughout the state. The police announced this development in a statement released Monday by Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The arrests followed a three-day operation that spanned all 44 Local Government Areas, conducted from June 5 to June 7. This effort focused on various identified trouble spots, including known criminal hideouts and drug distribution centers.

The statement indicated that the suspects include individuals engaged in thuggery, drug trafficking, and possession of illegal weapons. All suspects are currently under investigation, with prosecutions anticipated where warranted.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered 270 dangerous weapons—including knives, cutlasses, and clubs—and a substantial quantity of suspected controlled substances, such as cannabis, Exol tablets, and a locally known drug referred to as “Suck and Die.”

CSP Kiyawa emphasized that these actions have significantly curtailed the capacity of criminal elements to threaten public safety. “Upon taking office, I pledged that no form of criminality would be tolerated in Kano State. We will continue to confront thuggery, drug trafficking, and violent crimes decisively,” he stated.

The police also noted that recent feedback from residents reflects a gradual decline in crime across various regions of the state, attributing this trend to ongoing police initiatives and enhanced community cooperation.
