Zamfara State Government Reiterates Stance Against Negotiating with Bandits

The Zamfara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling insecurity by refusing to negotiate with bandits and pledging to enhance its strategies for improving safety across the state.

Deputy Governor Mani Mumuni Masamar Mudi made the announcement during a condolence visit to Bunkasau village in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area, which recently experienced a violent attack. At least 26 people lost their lives, and several others were injured in the incident.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Shehu Adamu Gusau, Mudi expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and praised the bravery of local residents who fought back against the attackers, managing to neutralize some of the assailants. He extended condolences to the families affected by the violence and offered prayers for the deceased and the recovery of the injured.

During the visit, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, commended the community’s efforts in defending itself. He indicated that the Assembly might explore legislation that would permit communities to bear arms for self-defense within constitutional parameters.

Additionally, Malam Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Bunkasau, acknowledged the deputy governor’s visit and highlighted the community’s struggles against ongoing attacks. He urged the government to provide more support to enhance local security measures.

Mudi’s delegation included notable government officials such as Ahmad Garba Yandi, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Mannir Fura Girke, Special Adviser on Security Matters.
