Ogun State Waste Management Authority Partners with Police on Waste Management
The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has entered into a partnership agreement with the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, aimed at improving waste management practices throughout the region.
Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, announced the collaboration following a strategic meeting with Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni at the police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
“This partnership focuses on enforcing environmental and waste management laws that prohibit indiscriminate dumping of refuse in public areas such as roadsides and medians,” Akintunde stated. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the police and OGWAMA, emphasizing that this new agreement will strengthen their longstanding relationship.
Akintunde noted the collaboration will aid in effectively enforcing waste management regulations, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment in Ogun State.
In response, Commissioner Ojajuni reinforced the police command’s commitment to supporting OGWAMA’s enforcement activities. He cautioned residents who hinder OGWAMA officials from performing their duties, urging them to reconsider such actions as they will not be tolerated.
Ojajuni also advised OGWAMA to enhance advocacy efforts by partnering with NGOs, schools, and community groups to educate residents on proper waste management practices.
