Gov Yusuf disowns youths involved in indecent act during First Lady’s visit

Kano State Governor Condemns Youth Behavior During First Lady’s Visit
KANO, Nigeria — Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has denounced the actions of several youths who reportedly displayed their underwear during the recent official visit of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf characterized the behavior as disgraceful and unacceptable, asserting that it does not reflect the values, culture, or traditions of the state.
The governor made these remarks during a special prayer event held at the Government House, attended by 4,444 Qur’anic reciters who gathered to pray for peace, stability, and progress in Kano and across Nigeria.
Yusuf noted that the youths’ actions diverge from the objectives of the Kano First Agenda of his administration and contradict the teachings of Islam, which emphasize modesty, discipline, and respect for authority.
“Our youth should be symbols of hope and development, not instruments of mockery or moral decay,” he stated. He also called on political leaders to refrain from inciting young people for personal gain, warning that such actions could have damaging consequences for society.
“I urge my fellow politicians to lead by example, abandon the culture of insults, and focus on the Kano First Agenda rather than pushing our children toward indecency,” Yusuf added.
The governor requested that the youths involved in the incident seek forgiveness and apologize to the people of Kano for the embarrassment caused. He emphasized the importance of protecting the moral fabric of society and warned against the exploitation of young people in political activities.
This incident follows reports of youths celebrating in the streets of Kano last week, brandishing underwear while singing and dancing.
