NDC Sets Nomination Fees Ahead of 2027 Elections

ABUJA — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the costs for its presidential and governorship nomination forms as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. The price for the presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms has been set at N60 million, while the governorship forms will cost N30 million.

In detail, governorship candidates will pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N20 million for the Nomination Form. Fees for senatorial aspirants are N3 million for the Expression of Interest and N5 million for the Nomination Form. Aspirants for the House of Representatives are required to pay N2 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N4 million for the Nomination Form. Those running for State Houses of Assembly will incur costs of N1 million and N1.5 million, respectively, for their forms.

The timetable for the primaries and form sales, issued by NDC’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, outlines the key dates. Sales of the Expression of Interest Forms will begin on May 13, 2026, and conclude on May 18, 2026. Screening and interviews for aspirants will occur from May 19 to May 21, before they are eligible to purchase Nomination Forms.

The sale of Nomination Forms will commence post-screening, from May 21 to May 23, with completed forms due by May 25. Appeals from the screening process will be addressed on May 25 and 26. The primary elections for various offices are scheduled for May 27 and 28, while the NDC’s presidential primary will take place on May 29 in Abuja.

The NDC has emphasized its commitment to a transparent and inclusive process. Aspirants will be screened in their respective states for State Assembly positions, while those vying for national offices and the presidency will be screened at the party’s headquarters.

Additionally, the NDC stated that an “open secret ballot” system will be utilized during the primaries to enhance credibility. The party noted that its nomination fees are among the lowest compared to other major political parties in Nigeria. To further support participation, women will pay only 50% of the fees, while persons with disabilities will receive a 75% waiver across all categories.

The NDC reaffirmed its dedication to fostering internal democracy as it prepares for the upcoming elections, aiming to produce competent candidates.
