Alleged extra marital affair: Court orders VeryDarkMan to pay Mr Jollof’s wife N30m for defamation

Delta State Court Orders Social Media Personality to Pay Damages in Defamation Case

A Federal High Court in Effurun, Delta State, has ordered Nigerian social media figure VeryDarkMan to pay 30 million naira in damages to Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjuyei Atsepoyi, the wife of comedian Mr. Jollof.

The case began in September 2024 when VeryDarkMan alleged, during an online dispute with Mr. Jollof, that Mrs. Atsepoyi had engaged in adultery with politicians and internet fraudsters to assist her husband in obtaining a political appointment in the state. In response to the accusations, Mr. Jollof criticized VeryDarkMan’s upbringing, suggesting he lacked proper guidance.

Following these remarks, Mrs. Atsepoyi filed a 500 million naira defamation lawsuit against VeryDarkMan. In a ruling dated May 13, 2026, Justice R. Harriman stated that VeryDarkMan failed to substantiate his claims and, as a result, ordered him to pay the damages for defamation.

The court also mandated VeryDarkMan to publish an apology to Mrs. Atsepoyi in two national newspapers and on all his social media platforms, retracting the defamatory statements.

Justice Harriman noted in his ruling that the published words were inherently defamatory and actionable. He stated, “The Claimant is entitled to general and aggravated damages and an injunction,” referencing previous legal precedents.

In detail, the judgment granted 20 million naira as general damages and 10 million naira as aggravated damages. The court further instructed VeryDarkMan to issue a retraction containing the apology within 14 days of the ruling.

The court also placed a restraining order on VeryDarkMan, prohibiting him from making any further defamatory statements against Mrs. Atsepoyi.
