Again, Nigeria-US joint airstrike neutralises 21 ISWAP terrorists in Borno

A joint air operation conducted by the Nigerian military as part of Operation Hadin Kai and the United States Africa Command has reportedly eliminated 21 suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province in Borno State.
The airstrike targeted a known terrorist enclave in Arege, located in the Kukawa Local Government Area, on May 30, following intelligence indicating that insurgents were active in that area.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, cited military sources in reporting that the operation was based on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions confirming the presence of ISWAP members.
The strike focused on a camp believed to be used by the terrorists to plan and coordinate operations across the Lake Chad region. The operation is said to have severely disrupted insurgent activities in the area.
According to military sources, this mission is part of ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, destroying insurgent hideouts, and curtailing operational capabilities in the North-East. The operation has been described as intelligence-driven and executed with precision to achieve the desired impact.
Sources also noted that the successful airstrike underscores the increasing collaboration between Nigerian security forces and international partners in combating terrorism.
Officials expressed hope that this operation would further weaken insurgent activities around the Lake Chad Basin, where groups have been attempting to regroup and target vulnerable communities.
