Hunters group accuses police officers of assault on member in Yobe

Hunters Group Accuses Yobe Police of Assault
The Hunters Group of Nigeria has alleged that police officers in Yobe State assaulted one of its members, resulting in injuries that required hospital treatment.
In a statement issued Thursday, the group reported that the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on June 4. According to Zagazola Makama on social media platform X, the group claimed the police officer assaulted the hunter “without provocation or any known offense having been committed.”
The statement indicated that the victim was severely beaten, rendering him unable to walk independently. It was further alleged that the same officers transported him to a hospital upon recognizing the seriousness of his condition.
The Hunters Group characterized the incident as alarming and suggested it might reflect a broader pattern of hostility towards its members. The organization has consistently urged its members to abide by the law and maintain peaceful relations with security forces.
In light of the incident, the group is calling for a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary measures against the officers involved. Photographs purportedly showing the victim’s injuries were included with the statement.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not responded to the allegations.
