Social media-fame can’t replace real talent – Nkem Owoh

Nollywood Veteran Nkem Owoh Critiques Trend of Casting Based on Social Media Popularity
Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, widely known as Osuofia, has addressed the growing trend among producers of casting actors based on their social media following rather than their acting skills.
In a recent appearance on the Selah Meditate podcast, Owoh asserted that this trend does not pose a significant threat to genuinely talented actors. “I don’t think social media fame is replacing real talent. It can’t. There is no way social media fame can replace real talent,” he stated.
His remarks come amid growing concerns within the Nigerian film industry. A number of actors, including Shine Rosman, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Osereme Inegbenebor, have publicly criticized Nollywood filmmakers for prioritizing aesthetics, social media popularity, and physical attributes over actual talent.
Despite these concerns being highlighted, there has been little action from filmmakers to address the issues raised by the actors.
