Katsina State Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Dismantle Armed Robbery Syndicate
KATSINA—The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a suspected drug dealer and dismantled a four-member armed robbery syndicate operating in Funtua and nearby communities.
Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu announced the developments on Tuesday. According to his statement, police operations led to the recovery of drugs, weapons, stolen property, and cash.
During a raid on May 28 in the Jabiri area of Funtua Local Government Area, officials arrested 22-year-old Aliyu Umar, known as “Makami.” The arrest was informed by reliable intelligence linking Umar to drug trafficking activities in the region.
Recovered from Umar were 38 Exol tablets, 28 wraps of dried leaves believed to be cannabis, and a knife. “The suspect is thought to be a key member of a drug peddling syndicate operating in the area. Investigation is ongoing,” Sadiq-Aliyu noted.
In a separate operation, officers from the Makera Police Division arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in an armed robbery gang responsible for crimes such as phone snatching, motorcycle theft, and shop breaking. The suspects—Salim Umar, 24; Yusuf Mustapha, 23; and Gaddafi Idris, 27—were taken into custody on May 21 based on intelligence reports.
A subsequent search of the suspects yielded several weapons, including knives, machetes, scissors, and an iron pinch bar. Other recovered items included mobile phones, SIM cards, charms, and cash.
The police command stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the suspects’ operations and any potential connections to other criminal activities in the area.
