Dickson, Kwankwaso meet over NDC unity

By Henry Umoru, Abuja

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), convened a meeting with former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and senior party officials to promote unity within the NDC.

The discussions took place at Dickson’s residence and included conversations about the party’s strategy leading up to the 2027 elections, where Peter Obi is the presidential candidate. This meeting aimed to reconcile NDC leaders in Kano State.

In a Facebook post, Dickson described the gathering as part of his role in mediating and ensuring cohesion among party officials at this crucial juncture. He emphasized the NDC’s potential as a leading opposition force in Nigeria, acknowledging that internal disagreements can arise during periods of growth.

“We are accustomed to managing such challenges through dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation,” he wrote. “That is what I have been doing, not only in Kano State but across the nation for the past months.”

The former Bayelsa State governor and current senator noted that the NDC has never imposed candidates on any state, including his home state, and asserted that democratic processes have been respected throughout.

Dickson highlighted the longstanding collaboration between him and Kwankwaso, recalling their respective tenures as governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “Over the years, we have maintained a close relationship, regularly visiting one another, sharing confidences, discussing national issues, and planning political engagements,” he stated.

Additionally, Dickson confirmed the formal integration of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement into the NDC, expressing appreciation for the participation of various support networks and volunteers. He requested that the Kwankwasiyya Movement submit a list of coordinators for inclusion.

“Everyone is welcome in the NDC,” Dickson added, underscoring the importance of unity among party members and stakeholders.

This meeting is part of a broader series of consultations aimed at strengthening the NDC’s internal cohesion in preparation for upcoming electoral challenges.
