Ogun police begin clampdown on vehicles with covered, unauthorized number plates

Ogun State Police Launch Enforcement on Vehicle Registration Compliance

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles with obscured, defaced, or unauthorized registration number plates. This action aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu.

The enforcement aims to bolster security and public safety, addressing the challenges posed by criminal elements who often exploit anonymity to commit offenses.

In a statement released Friday, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi announced that State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders to impound vehicles in violation and conduct comprehensive investigations as per existing laws.

Babaseyi noted that the enforcement will also address vehicles displaying fake, improperly issued, or altered registration plates. However, vehicles authorized to display flags under established protocols are exempt from this directive.

The police urged motorists, transport operators, and fleet owners to ensure their vehicles display valid and clearly visible registration number plates at all times. Babaseyi emphasized that the enforcement is intended to improve law enforcement’s ability to identify vehicles, investigate crimes, and enhance overall security in Ogun State, rather than to inconvenience law-abiding citizens.

Officers involved in the enforcement have been instructed to act professionally and courteously, remaining within the law during their operations. The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, encouraging residents to comply with the directive and to provide timely, credible information to assist law enforcement efforts.
