Bandits kill 20 in fresh attack on Kebbi community

At Least 20 Killed in Kebbi State Attack
At least 20 people were killed in an attack by suspected bandits on the Fesken Rafi community in the Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, raising new concerns about security in the region.
The Kebbi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the incident, labeling the attack as tragic. Officials extended condolences to the families of the victims and the residents of the affected community.
Deputy Governor Umar Tafida led a government delegation on a condolence visit Saturday. He assured residents of the state government’s commitment to addressing insecurity and protecting lives and property throughout Kebbi.
Tafida announced plans to deploy additional security personnel and operational resources to the area. These measures aim to enhance security operations, restore normalcy, and prevent future attacks. “We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” he stated during the visit.
The Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, along with Nuradeen Kangiwa, a member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, reported that the attack occurred a few days earlier and resulted in significant loss of life. They commended Governor Nasir Idris for the administration’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and respond to the needs of affected communities.
Traditional leaders, including Dikkon Kabi Alhaji Kabiru Sulaiman, representing the Emir of Argungu, and District Head Alhaji Abubakar Dan-Malam, also expressed their gratitude for the government’s intervention.
In their discussions with the government delegation, the traditional rulers called for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway. They argued that improved access would bolster security responses, facilitate economic activities, and enhance the living conditions of residents.
This attack underscores the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in parts of Kebbi State, despite ongoing efforts from security agencies and the state government to combat banditry and related criminal activities.
